my newfound respect

lately i have been completely in awe of people in the medical profession. it started with catching shows like the critical hour and trauma - life in the er on the discovery health channel, and while i don't have a high tolerance for watching blood or seeing the insides of people, i find myself unable to turn away. the situations that doctors, surgeons and nurses are put into on a daily basis are so amazing it makes me laugh at the insignificance my job*.

not only is the human body an extreemly complicated machine, it could be somebody's husband, best friend or child. i can't imagine handling the pressure of saving a person's life. and to top it off, they have the most insane work hours--long shifts, overnight shifts and being on-call at any time.

i have friends who work in the nicu, and i constantly beg to hear stories about what they do and see. obviously because of the law they can only tell me so much, but what i have heard has amazed me and made me so greatful for people like them who can handle such tragic cases on a daily basis. not only do they have to try and do their jobs, but they also have to deal with all kinds of parents--even some who have beaten their children to the point of permenant brain damage.

so i guess this is my salute to all you doctors, surgeons and nurses out there who are too busy saving peoples lives to be reading my blog.

*i'm sure someone out there is weeping over their lack of a nicely-designed logo

not blogging is the new blogging

apparently blogging doesn't qualify as a "summer activity" because myself and a lot of fellow blogmates have all been m.i.a. for the last few months. that just means we've all had a good summer, right?

today i'd like to do a list of good things. they aren't in any particular order because they all have different qualities of goodness.

cheap seats. if you ever get the chance, check out this show. i laugh out loud every single time. i've been a big fan of the sklar brothers ever since their rendition of a cabaret to reo speedwagon's "roll with the changes." they seem like guys i would most definitely drink beer with.

extra fries at the bottom of your fast food bag. you know it. basically i have been really unhealthy this week and indulging in way too much fast food. yey fat!

football. in less than one week, i will be enjoying a live college football game on tv whilst enjoying a large mug o' beer in my hand.

more football. my brother scored us some husker football tickets for the opening game. two words: tunnel walk.

decals. today my car got tatooed. on one side is the retro apple computer sticker, and on the other is a husker blackshirts sticker. translation: i'm both gay* and into football.

beads. my friend got me into the new hobby of making jewelry. i really enjoy it, and now have no excuse for not having some bling to match every outfit i own.

*because it's a rainbow, not because it's apple.
