music makes me happy
for my birthday i got a cd from some good friends of mine, and even though i completely trust their taste in music, i get strangly uncomfortable about getting a cd as a present. i think it's the fear of letting people down by not liking it or something--that's a lot of pressure. needless to say, it's an awesome cd. i predict that it will reach soundtrack status as my "summer of 2007 album." oh, i suppose i should share the band i'm talking about: "silversun pickups." highly recommended.
in other music news, junior boys, a band that i found through lexi was in town on wednesday night, so i went. and it was excellent. what i found awesome about hearing them live is the imperfection it added to their music. i would consider them to be in the "electronic" genre, which seems to be a genre of squeaky clean production, so hearing them live seemed to add so much emotion and power to their music.* i enjoyed it a lot. and i got the lead singer's autograph, which scotty told me i should add to my collection of awesome random autographs alongside mark duplass's.
oh, there was a close call on the way home from this concert. my friend cj had driven me to the concert from the restaurant we were at, so she had to drop me off at my car which was parked on the street. she pulled in front of my car, but not all the way to the curb, and since we're girls we sat there talking for about 5 minutes. this whole time, my passenger door was open so the interior light was on. all of a sudden some flashing lights appeared behind us. shit. i tell charity to pull closer to the curb, and then the cop gets out of her car and approaches us. she asks where we've been and if we've been drinking. cj admits that we've had "a few" and the cop takes her license and registration to check it out.
the cop returns and says "the reason i stopped you is because there was a call from someone in the neighborhood about some suspicious activity and possible drug deals." cj and i kind of laugh. just to clarify, we're not drug dealers. and we'd be pretty bad at it if we were--sitting in the middle of the street with a dome light on. all of a sudden, our cop runs off to a parking lot adjacent to the street we're on. there's a different police car pulling up to a silver car. cj's car is also silver. i see a man suddenly sit up in the driver's seat as the cops shine their flashlights in. i look over at cj who is pretty freaked out at this point and exclaim, "that's the drug dealer!" she kind of laughs and lets out a sigh of relief. the cop still had her license in her had, so we had to wait until she got the real drug dealer under control before we could leave. moral of the story: only drink and drive in a neighborhood with drug dealers.
*yes scotty, i get it now. you were... um... kinda right, and stuff.
